Tuesdays With Jakey

Steve Poltz is a modern day troubadour, touring relentlessly and playing long and winding and energetic as all heck live solo acoustic shows. Some of you might recognize his handsome face as the guy in the Jewel video for “You Were Meant For Me” a role he shared by being the writer of the song! We first met when I booked his old band the Rugburns at wetlands and then let them stay in my tiny apartment. And we’ve stayed buds over all these years. We caught up on my former town of McCalm Idaho and chewed the fat for an hour about life, love and the pursuit of just being. Check him out some more at www.Poltz.com

Thsi week I ramble about being on the road again. I'll be picking up my best girl, and even better motorcycle, Miss Lucille, tomorrow and riding out into the desert. Without a net. And putting my antennae up to cath the signals form the unierse and let it guide me towards what's next. Trying to bend the universe to our desires is a fool's errand. So I'm off again in search of even more adventures.

This week I ramble about where I want to be and what I want to do. And about how I'm just a human, being. Not needing to be *doing* much of anything. I'm so over the worries about achieving the next thing. Of having a destination for myself, professionally or financially. And about how it's fine to just be, maaan. All we need to do in this topsy turvy world right now is to be ourselves. And that's more than enough for me. For now. For right now. I'm just a human. Being. And that in itself is a remarkable feat.

Back in the New York Groove with a double length episode. This week I ramble about being back in NYC and my trip. to Detroit Rock City!! Just got back from my THIRD rock n roll pilgrimage to the Motor City. Past trips were to see Eminem & Insane Clown Posse and this time was for the hometown tour kickoff of Jack White at the 5,000 seat Masonic Temple. And also just happened to include a surpise propsal and wedding of Jack White and his blushing bride Olivia Jean. What a long strange trip it's been!

This week i ramble about the crushing avalanche of anxiety that I have been surfing for the past week and a half. I've managed to ride it out with no crashes, but it's been a bit of a white knuckle job. Moving out of my back country cabin, car breaking down, headed to NYC for a bit, and once again leaving whatever relative safety web I had weaved. I'm about to shoot myself, yet again, into the great unknown wide open.

We are BACK! After an unplanned 6 week hiatus, due in equal parts to back country isolation, low level depression, and just not feeling like I had much to say, I return this week to ramble about life, love and the pursuit of scrambled adventures and a clear mind. I took break from clearing out this house to chew the proverbial fat about what’s gone down here and what might be next. In the words of the late great Tom Petty - tomorrow I depart, once again, Into The Great Wide Open, with only the slightest idea of what’s next. On the road again, indeed.

After a couple of heavy episodes, I'm taking a week off of recording something new, and instead posting this interview with Dick Dale. I promoted all of Dick's NYC shows since 1999, but more importantly we developed a very close friendship. And I considered him to be father figure. I think you'll get that vibe from this long convo. Take care of yourselves. I'll be back next week with some fresh TWJ rambles. Love y'all.

It's been 6 years since I lost my best friend, Rockin' Rodney Speed. This week's episode is entirely dedicated to him. I tell lots of stories and play recordings of him talking about his favorite music. And some recordings of our band the Rodney Speed Experience. and tons of friends chime in with their memories and tributes. and I close it out with my moving eulogy form his funeral. Viva La Rodney. And Rodspeed.
